A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to veterans.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 286, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§286-109.3  Designation of a Veteran.  On the application form for any driver's license or license renewal, the examiner of drivers shall ask the applicant to designate whether the applicant is a United States military Veteran.  Provided at the time of issuance of the license the applicant produces a valid DD214 the examiner of drivers shall issue or renew a license bearing the designation "Veteran", a symbol, or an abbreviation thereof, for those applicants who have so produced.  For the purposes of this section "Veteran" means an individual who has served in an active duty status in United States military, naval or air force for at least 20 years of active duty service and who was discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable. 

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.

Description:

Assists United States Military Veterans by identifying veterans on driver's licenses.  Assists the public and businesses in efficiently identifying veterans to apply appropriate benefits and discounts. Defines a veteran with 20 plus years active service. Eliminates the need for those Veterans to carry their DD214.
