A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Section 304A-2601, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by amending subsection (b) to read as follows:

     "(b)  The board may[:

     (1)  Assess fees for parking on roadways and in the parking areas under the jurisdiction of the university;

     (2)  Install parking meters on roadways and in parking areas; and

     (3)  Make rules relating to the assessments of fees for parking and the installation of parking meters.  The rules shall be adopted pursuant to chapter 91.]

assess fees for parking on roadways and in the parking areas under the jurisdiction of the university.  Such fees may be assessed and collected through parking meters or kiosks; by issuance of hourly, daily, monthly, academic term, or other parking passes; or in any other lawful manner.  In establishing such fees, the board shall be exempt from the public notice, public hearing, and gubernatorial approval requirements of chapter 91; provided that the fees shall be established at an open public meeting pursuant to chapter 92.

     The fees shall be deposited in the university parking revolving fund established under section [[]304A-2275[]]."

     SECTION 2.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2010.
