HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

H.B. NO.

323

TWENTY-FIFTH LEGISLATURE, 2009

STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

relating to KUPUNA CARE.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1.  On July 1, 1999, the executive office on aging launched kupuna care, a statewide long-term care program developed in partnership with the county area agencies on aging to address the increasing number of elders needing long-term care.  The kupuna care program has been one of the most cost effective programs delivering vital services to our elders.  The legislature finds that it is important to maintain critical elder services and programs in the State, like kupuna care.

The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds to the kupuna care program.

SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $1,025,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2009-2010 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2010-2011 to fund the kupuna care program.

The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of health for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2009.
