A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to weapons.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 134, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to part I to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§134-    Electric guns; victims of domestic abuse.  (a)  Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, a county police department may authorize a documented victim of abuse of a family or household member, under section 709-906, to possess an electric gun; provided that:

     (1)  Applicants are not prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition under section 134-7;

     (2)  Prior to receiving authorization, applicants shall complete a training course, approved by a county police department, in the use of electric guns; and

     (3)  Applicant authorization shall be reevaluated annually by the county police department that issued the initial authorization.

     (b)  For the purposes of this section, "electric gun" shall have the same meaning as defined in section 134-1."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
