A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO TUITION WAIVERS.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $         or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2019-2020 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2020-2021 to be deposited into the University of Hawaii scholarship and assistance special fund.

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the University of Hawaii scholarship and assistance special fund the sum of $         or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2019-2020 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2020-2021 for providing scholarships to any qualified student who:

     (1)  Is a spouse or child of a deceased member of the armed forces; and

     (2)  Shall provide specific proof that the applicant would qualify for a gold star lapel button pursuant to the criteria established by title 10 United States Code section 1126.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the University of Hawaii for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on January 1, 2050.
