A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO LAND AND BUILDING ACQUISITION.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  The legislature finds that article XI, section 3 of the state constitution requires the State to "conserve and protect agricultural lands, promote diversified agriculture, increase agricultural self-sufficiency and assure the availability of agriculturally suitable lands".

     Accordingly, the purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds for the purchase of land that will help fulfill the State's constitutional duty to strengthen the agricultural sector.

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $15,000,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2019-2020 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2020-2021 to acquire the property identified as tax map key number (1)9-2-001:011-0000; provided that the price does not exceed the amount appropriated.

     The sums appropriated shall be expended by the agribusiness development corporation for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2019.
