HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

requesting the Hawaii Community Development Authority to engage in efforts to acquire the parcel of Kakaako makai land commonly known as the "Honolulu Ford parcel" and other lands owned by Kamehameha Schools located in Kakaako makai.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, the John A. Burns School of Medicine produces high-quality physicians, biomedical scientists, and allied health workers for Hawaii and the Pacific; and

 

     WHEREAS, the mission of the University of Hawaii Cancer Center is to be a world leader in eliminating cancer through research, education, and improved patient care; and

 

     WHEREAS, the affiliation between the John A. Burns School of Medicine and the University of Hawaii Cancer Center has created a nexus of medical and scientific achievement in Kakaako makai; and

 

     WHEREAS, the State's acquisition of land in Kakaako makai for medical and scientific purposes could contribute to the synergy between the John A. Burns School of Medicine and the University of Hawaii Cancer Center; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-sixth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2012, the Senate concurring, that the Hawaii Community Development Authority is requested to engage in efforts to acquire the parcel of Kakaako makai land commonly known as the "Honolulu Ford parcel" and other lands owned by Kamehameha Schools located in Kakaako makai; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, upon acquiring the "Honolulu Ford parcel" or other lands owned by Kamehameha Schools located in Kakaako makai, the Hawaii Community Development Authority is requested to develop or cause the development of the parcels for medical or scientific uses that contribute to the synergy created in Kakaako makai by the John A. Burns School of Medicine and the University of Hawaii Cancer Center; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Hawaii Community Development Authority is requested to submit a report of its progress in acquiring the "Honolulu Ford parcel" and other lands owned by Kamehameha Schools located in Kakaako makai, including any proposed legislation, to the Legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2013; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Governor, the Chairperson of the Board of the Hawaii Community Development Authority, the Dean of the John A. Burns School of Medicine, the Director of the University of Hawaii Cancer Center, and the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Kamehameha Schools.
