HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

requesting the auditor to conduct an audit on the department of transportation's pali highway resurfacing.

 

 


     WHEREAS, the Pali Highway resurfacing project began in May 2017, and was anticipated to be completed in December 2020; and

 

     WHEREAS, the project is only approximately seventy-five percent completed; and

 

     WHEREAS, commuters on Pali Highway are still experiencing lane closures and uneven lanes; and

 

     WHEREAS, Vineyard Boulevard, Wyllie Street, Waokanaka Street, Funchal Street, and Pacific Heights Road still need to be paved; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Department of Transportation estimates the project will be completed in August 2023; and

 

     WHEREAS, under section 23-5, Hawaii Revised Statutes, the Auditor may examine and inspect all accounts, books, records, files, papers, and documents, and all financial affairs of every department, office, agency, and political subdivision; and

 

     WHEREAS, authorizing the Auditor to examine the Pali Highway resurfacing project may provide residents with timely information on the status of the project; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2023, the Senate concurring, that the Auditor is requested to conduct an audit of the Department of Transportation's Pali Highway resurfacing; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Office of the Auditor is requested to submit its performance audit, including any findings, recommendations, and proposed legislation, to the Legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2024; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Auditor, Director of Transportation, and Deputy Director of the Highways Division.
