HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

urging the honolulu police department to dispatch two bicycle patrol officers in haleiwa.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, violent crime is increasing in Haleiwa, with many residents reporting that the area is unsafe after the sun sets; and

 

     WHEREAS, on November 1, 2023, a sixty-six year old man was a victim of an unprovoked attack in Haleiwa, causing him to lose vision in one eye; and

 

     WHEREAS, another man was stabbed at a party in Haleiwa in December of 2023, by a twenty-four year old man who was later arrested; and

 

     WHEREAS, according to the Honolulu Police Department's crime mapping, since October 1, 2023, there were three assaults, one sex crime, one weapons crime, and two thefts in the same location where the sixty-six year old man was attacked; and

 

     WHEREAS, an increase in law enforcement presence in Haleiwa would help to deter crime and increase safety in the area for residents and visitors; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2024, that the Honolulu Police Department is urged to dispatch two bicycle patrol officers in Haleiwa; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu and Chief of Police of the Honolulu Police Department.
