HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

CELEBRATING THE NATIONAL AND WORLD ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF HAWAII'S WOMEN SURFERS.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, Hawaii is fortunate to recognize exceptional women who have made significant achievements on behalf of female athletes through their efforts to pioneer participation and pursue gender equality in professional surfing; and

 

     WHEREAS, these women have actively engaged the public through advocacy, education, events, competitions, and the media for the advancement and recognition of women's surfing in professional sports; and

 

     WHEREAS, these athletes have a tremendous influence on young female and male surfers alike who aspire to work hard hoping to achieve the same level of ability and accomplishments; and

 

     WHEREAS, their efforts support equality, inclusion, equal access, pay parity, and to increase the number of events, awards, and opportunities for women to showcase their athletic excellence; and

 

     WHEREAS, their accomplishments include winning multiple championships, titles and competitions across the globe and acting as trailblazers for other women who will follow their legacy as women surfers for future achievements; and

 

     WHEREAS, each of these women are deeply invested in the health and vitality of Hawaii's communities, surf culture, and honoring the beauty and legacy of the native culture from which surfing originates; and

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirtieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2020, hereby congratulates and honors Paige Alms, Honolua Blomfield, Sabrina Brennan, Betty Depolito, Keala Kennelly, Carissa Moore, Carol Philips, and the countless others fighting for equality and representation in women's surfing and extend our warmest wishes for their continued success.
