HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

DECLARING MARCH AS LOCALICIOUS Hawaii MONTH.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, the Hawaii Agricultural Foundation is proud to launch its first annual Localicious Hawaii campaign to recognize local restaurants that are committed to buying local while also raising funds to support future farmers in Hawaii; and

 

     WHEREAS, Localicious Hawaii reinforces the State's Buy Local, It Matters campaign to encourage residents to supports Hawaii farmers by making conscious decisions to purchase locally grown produce; and

 

     WHEREAS, Localicious Hawaii asks residents and visitors to patronize those restaurants that are committed to buying and serving menu items featuring the produce of local farmers; and

 

     WHEREAS, Localicious Hawaii furthers the Hawaii Regional Cuisine movement, which brought 12 local chefs together more than 20 years ago to establish and promote Hawaii as a food destination; and

 

     WHEREAS, Localicious Hawaii promotes an agricultural network so that chefs and restaurants have access to locally grown produce; and

 

     WHEREAS, more than 65 restaurants are participating in this year's Localicious Hawaii campaign; and

 

     WHEREAS, each participating restaurant will create a dish incorporating locally grown, raised, or caught products and donate the proceeds to the Hawaii Agricultural Foundation's agricultural education programs; and

 

     WHEREAS, the goal of Localicious Hawaii is to raise $50,000 for Hawaii Agricultural Foundation's Ag in the Classroom Veggie U Program; and

 

     WHEREAS, participating restaurants will be able to adopt a fourth grade class from Hawaii's public schools to participate in the Ag in the Classroom Veggie U Program; and

 

     WHEREAS, Localicious Hawaii will be held during the month of March to coincide with National Agricultural Day that will be celebrated on March 25, 2014; and

 

     WHEREAS, Localicious Hawai‘i is made possible through the generous support of the Chef Zone, a division of Y. Hata; Department of Agriculture; Honolulu Magazine; KHON2; and KSSK; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2014, that March be declared as Localicious Hawaii Month; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Chairperson of the Board of Agriculture; Director of Business, Economic Development and Tourism; Superintendent of Education; and Chair of the Hawaii Agricultural Foundation.
