A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO BEES.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 142, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to part IV to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§142-    Beehive; swarm; disposition.  (a)  Any person that receives state or county funds who wishes to remove a beehive or swarm from that person's property shall contract with a beekeeper or pest control operator for the removal of the beehive or swarm.  Destruction of the beehive shall only occur as a last resort when all other methods are ineffective or unavailable.

     (b)  As used in this section:

     "Person" shall include any private entity and any agency of the State or any of its political subdivisions.

     "Pest control operator" has the same meaning as in section 460J-1."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
