A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to economic development.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 201, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to part I to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§201-    State program for economic development.  (a)  The department shall create a state program for economic development.

     (b)  The purpose of the program shall be to promote economic development in the fields of clean energy, high technology, and healthcare.  The program shall:

     (1)  Make policy recommendations to the legislature regarding tax credits and other incentives to increase job creation and job training in the fields of clean energy, high technology, and healthcare;

     (2)  Create a separate ten-year plan to increase job creation and job training in the fields of clean energy, high technology, and healthcare;

     (3)  Annually update the ten-year plan; and

     (4)  Submit an annual report to the legislature detailing any accomplishments of the program during the last calendar year, the formulation and progress of the current ten-year plan, and any further findings and recommendations."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
