SENATE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
REQUESTING ALL BRANCHES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY TO DISPLAY THE HAWAIIAN FLAG ON ALL U.S. MILITARY reservations and military training facilities IN THE STATE.
WHEREAS, the current version of the Hawaiian flag was adopted in 1845 and has been used by the Kingdom, Protectorate, Republic, Territory, and State of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, the flag's design includes symbolism representing the State's islands, ocean, culture, values, and history; and
WHEREAS, displaying a state's flag is a gesture of respect for that state's people, land, and culture; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii's people and land host more than three hundred thousand United States military personnel, including fourteen military reservations and military training facilities; and
WHEREAS, on July 15, 2020, then-Secretary of Defense, Mark Esper, issued a memorandum entitled "Public Display or Depiction of Flags in the Department of Defense", authorizing the public display of state flags, and other flags, in all Department of Defense workplaces; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2023, the House of Representatives concurring, that all branches of the United States Military are requested to display the Hawaiian flag on all United States military reservations and military training facilities in the State; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the President of the United States, Secretary of Defense, Commander of the United States Pacific Fleet, Commander of the United States Pacific Air Forces, Commander of the United States Army Pacific, Adjutant General, and members of Hawaii's congressional delegation.
