SENATE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

Requesting the department of education to review the FEASIBILITY OF CONTINUING the lahainaluna high school boarding program.

 

 


     WHEREAS, Lahainaluna High School is a public school located on the Island of Maui; and

 

     WHEREAS, Lahainaluna High School serves approximately one thousand students; and

 

     WHEREAS, Lahainaluna High School has a boarding program that serves approximately forty-three students; and

 

     WHEREAS, Lahainaluna High School's boarding program operates at no cost to students; and

 

     WHEREAS, Lahainaluna High School is the only Hawaii public school with a boarding program; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-eighth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2015, the House of Representatives concurring, that the Department of Education is requested to review the feasibility of continuing the Lahainaluna High School boarding program; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Education is requested to provide a report to the Legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2016 on its findings and recommendations, including a discussion on the benefits and costs of the Lahainaluna High School boarding program and proposed legislation, as applicable; and

 


     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Chairperson of the Board of Education and Superintendent of Education.
