SENATE RESOLUTION
Urging the federal government to release roger christie on bail pending trial.
WHEREAS, Roger Christie is a longtime resident of the State of Hawaii and County of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, Roger Christie was arrested in July of 2010 on charges relating to the growing and distribution of marijuana; and
WHEREAS, Roger Christie has been held without a trial in federal detention since July of 2010, repeatedly denied release on bail on the grounds that he is a "danger to the community", and denied his constitutional right to a speedy trial; and
WHEREAS, Roger Christie is a gentle, peaceful person and does not pose any danger to the community whatsoever; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2013, that the federal government is urged to release Roger Christie pending trial; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Hawaii County Mayor, Hawaii County Council, United States Department of Justice, and United States Attorney's Office for the District of Hawaii.
