SENATE RESOLUTION
urging the legislature to preserve, protect, and restore limu kala.
WHEREAS, last year, limu kala was designated as the state limu of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, limu kala populations have been severely damaged by the effects of climate change, development, and runoff; and
WHEREAS, healthy limu kala populations and healthy nearshore ecosystems support food security, biodiversity, and help to combat the negative effects of climate change; and
WHEREAS, actions to support limu kala shall also support healthy reefs and nearshore ecosystems; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2024, that this body is urged to preserve, protect, and restore limu kala to the full extent of its capability; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Governor, President of the Senate, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
