SMITH 1 1 A Resolution recognizing Graceland University 1 2 and congratulating its men's basketball team 1 3 for its outstanding 2017=2018 season, which it 1 4 finished dramatically by winning the 2018 National 1 5 Association of Intercollegiate Athletics 81st Annual 1 6 Division I Men's Basketball Championship. 1 7 WHEREAS, Graceland University, founded in 1895, and 1 8 having its main campus in Lamoni, offers more than 50 1 9 academic programs with a mission to create learning 1 10 communities where students develop their potential for 1 11 meaningful and productive lives; and 1 12 WHEREAS, under the leadership of coach Craig Doty, 1 13 in his second season at Graceland, the Yellowjackets 1 14 men's basketball team finished with an overall record 1 15 of 29 wins and 10 losses; and 1 16 WHEREAS, the prestigious National Association of 1 17 Intercollegiate Athletics Men's Basketball National 1 18 Championship, established by James Naismith, has held 1 19 an annual men's basketball championship since 1937; and 1 20 WHEREAS, the 2018 National Association of 1 21 Intercollegiate Athletics 81st Annual Division I Men's 1 22 Basketball Championship was held in Kansas City; and 1 23 WHEREAS, on Tuesday night, March 20, 2018, the 1 24 Yellowjackets' historic season came to a dramatic 1 25 conclusion when the final shot as time expired ended in 1 26 the team's 83=80 overtime victory over Louisiana State 1 27 University=Alexandria in the championship game; NOW 1 28 THEREFORE, 2 1 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, 2 2 That the House of Representatives recognizes Graceland 2 3 University and congratulates its men's basketball 2 4 team, including players and staff, for the outstanding 2 5 2017=2018 season finished by winning the 2018 National 2 6 Association of Intercollegiate Athletics 81st Annual 2 7 Division I Men's Basketball Championship; and 2 8 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, upon adoption, the 2 9 Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives shall 2 10 prepare an official copy of this Resolution for 2 11 presentation to coach Craig Doty.
