  1 1 Section 1. Section 461A.48, Code 2018, is amended to read
  1 2 as follows:
  1 3 461A.48 Camping areas.
1 4 1. No person shall camp in any portion of a state park or
1 5 preserve except in portions prescribed or designated by the
  1 6 commission.
1 7 2. The commission may designate up to one hundred percent
1 8 of the campsites in that portion of a state park or preserve
1 9 designated for camping as reservable using a centralized
1 10 reservation system maintained or contracted for by the
1 11 commission. For purposes of this subsection, "centralized
1 12 reservation system" means a system that accepts and processes
1 13 reservations either online or through a call center for camping
1 14 and rental facilities in state parks, preserves, and recreation
  1 15 areas.
  1 16 EXPLANATION
1 17 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
1 18 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly.
1 19 Current commission rules require the commission to make
1 20 reservable on the centralized reservation system at least 50
1 21 percent but no more than 75 percent of the total number of
1 22 campsites in each individual campground.
1 23 This bill will allow the commission to make reservable up to
1 24 100 percent of campsites in each individual campground. The
1 25 bill only affects the commission's self=imposed upper limit
1 26 and does not affect the remainder of the commission's rules
1 27 covering the centralized reservation system.
