1.
NEW
SECTION
.
135.191
Triclosan
prohibition.
1
1.
Beginning
January
1,
2015,
a
person
shall
not
2
manufacture,
sell,
or
distribute
in
commerce
in
this
state
any
3
soap,
hand
sanitizer,
or
toothpaste
containing
triclosan.

A
manufacturer
shall
use
the
least
toxic
alternative
when
5
replacing
triclosan
in
the
manufacturing
of
any
of
the
products
6
listed
in
subsection
1.

3.
A
person
who
violates
this
section
is
subject
to
a
civil
8
penalty
of
one
thousand
dollars
for
each
violation.

EXPLANATION

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
11
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill,
beginning
January
1,
2015,
prohibits
the
13
manufacture,
sale,
or
distribution
of
a
soap,
hand
sanitizer,
14
or
toothpaste
containing
triclosan.
The
bill
requires
a
15
manufacturer
to
use
the
least
toxic
alternative
when
replacing
16
triclosan
in
the
manufacturing
of
such
products.
The
bill
17
provides
that
a
person
who
violates
the
bill
is
subject
to
a
18
civil
penalty
of
$1,000
for
each
violation.
