S.F. _____ Section 1. Section 321.194, subsection 2, Code 2014, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 2. Suspension and revocation. A driver’s license issued 3 under this section is subject to suspension or revocation 4 for the same reasons and in the same manner as suspension or 5 revocation of any other driver’s license. The department may 6 also suspend a driver’s license issued under this section upon 7 receiving satisfactory evidence that the licensee has violated 8 the restrictions of the license or has been involved in one 9 or more accidents chargeable to the licensee. The department 10 may suspend a driver’s license issued under this section 11 upon receiving a record of the licensee’s conviction for one 12 violation. The department shall revoke the license upon 13 receiving a record of conviction for two or more violations 14 of a law of this state or a city ordinance regulating the 15 operation of motor vehicles on highways other than parking 16 violations as defined in section 321.210 . After a person 17 licensed under this section receives two or more convictions 18 which require revocation of the person’s license under this 19 section , the department shall not grant an application for a 20 new driver’s license until the expiration of one year thirty 21 days . 22 EXPLANATION 23 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 24 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 25 Under current law, when a person with a special minor’s 26 license is convicted of two or more motor vehicle violations 27 other than parking violations, the department of transportation 28 is required to revoke the person’s license, and the person is 29 not eligible to apply for another driver’s license for one 30 year. This bill shortens the waiting period before the person 31 is eligible to apply for a driver’s license to 30 days. 32 -1- LSB 6155SC (2) 85 dea/nh 1/ 1
