1 | AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 2895

2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 2895, on page 2, | ||||||
3 | immediately below line 9, by inserting the following:

4 | " (d) The Department shall ensure that all hospitals require | ||||||
5 | all current and new obstetrical staff, emergency department | ||||||
6 | staff, and any other staff, including residents and fellows in | ||||||
7 | training, who provide care for pregnant or postpartum women to | ||||||
8 | receive implicit bias training and education in cultural | ||||||
9 | competency in interactions between patients and providers. | ||||||
10 | (e) The Department shall provide support for the Illinois | ||||||
11 | Perinatal Quality Collaborative to develop an initiative to | ||||||
12 | improve birth equity and reduce peripartum racial and ethnic | ||||||
13 | disparities, modeled using the Alliance for Innovation on | ||||||
14 | Maternal Health and the California Maternal Quality | ||||||
15 | Collaborative's pilot work on improving birth equity. The | ||||||
16 | Department shall support the initiation of a statewide | ||||||
17 | perinatal quality improvement initiative in collaboration with | ||||||
18 | Illinois birthing hospitals to implement strategies to reduce |

1 | peripartum racial and ethnic disparities and to address | ||||||
2 | implicit bias in the health care system. | ||||||
3 | (f) The Department shall ensure that all hospitals develop | ||||||
4 | protocols for timely identification of all pregnant and | ||||||
5 | postpartum women in the emergency department and for | ||||||
6 | appropriate and timely consultation of an obstetric provider to | ||||||
7 | provide input on management and follow-up. ".
