Bill Title: Amends the Election Code. Provides that a person who is 17 years old on the date of a primary may vote at the primary if that person is otherwise qualified and will be 18 years old on the date of the following election.

1 | AN ACT concerning elections.

2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | Section 5. The Election Code is amended by adding Section | |||||||||||||||||||
5 | 3-6 as follows:

6 | (10 ILCS 5/3-6 new) | |||||||||||||||||||
7 | Sec. 3-6. Voting age. Notwithstanding any other provision | |||||||||||||||||||
8 | of law, a person 17 years old on the date of a primary election | |||||||||||||||||||
9 | who is otherwise qualified to vote is qualified to vote at that | |||||||||||||||||||
10 | primary, or vote an absentee, grace period, or early voting | |||||||||||||||||||
11 | ballot with respect to that primary, if that person will be 18 | |||||||||||||||||||
12 | years old on the date of the following election. | |||||||||||||||||||
13 | References in this Code and elsewhere to the requirement | |||||||||||||||||||
14 | that a person must be 18 years old to vote shall be interpreted | |||||||||||||||||||
15 | in accordance with this Section.
