2 | WHEREAS, It is necessary to recognize those who are | ||||||
3 | dedicated to the betterment
of the State of Illinois and their | ||||||
4 | communities; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Robert J. "Pud" Williams was born on June 21, 1926 | ||||||
6 | in Centervllle, the son
of Robert P. and Mamie Olive (nee | ||||||
7 | Vaught) Williams; he married Dorothy Lee Given on
December 27, | ||||||
8 | 1952: he served at Director of Agriculture for the State of | ||||||
9 | Illinois from
1972 to 1976; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, During his tenure as Director of Agriculture and | ||||||
11 | Chairman of the White
County Board, Robert J. "Pud" Williams | ||||||
12 | made it a priority to boost the local economy by
working for | ||||||
13 | better infrastructure throughout the area; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Robert J. "Pud" Williams played an instrumental | ||||||
15 | role in achieving the new
Carmi Airport, an intersection at the | ||||||
16 | First Baptist Church in Carmi, and the Interstate 64
exit at | ||||||
17 | mile marker 117; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, It is fitting to dedicate the Burnt Prairie exit | ||||||
19 | at mile marker 117 on Interstate 64 in honor
of Director Robert | ||||||
20 | J. "Pud" Williams; therefore, be it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
2 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE | ||||||
3 | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the Burnt Prairie | ||||||
4 | interstate exit at mile marker 117 on Interstate 64 as the | ||||||
5 | "Robert J.
"Pud" Williams Memorial Exit"; and be it further
| ||||||
6 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation | ||||||
7 | is requested to erect at
at suitable locations, consistent with | ||||||
8 | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques
or signs | ||||||
9 | giving notice of the name of "Robert J.
"Pud" Williams Memorial | ||||||
10 | Exit"; and be it further

11 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
12 | presented to the Secretary of the
Illinois Department of | ||||||
13 | Transportation and the family of Robert J. "Pud" Williams.
