2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of C.L. | ||||||
4 | "Charles Lester" Patterson of Chicago, who passed away on March | ||||||
5 | 12, 2019; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Charles Lester was born to C.L. and Stella | ||||||
7 | (Carter) Patterson on May 8, 1943; he lived his entire life on | ||||||
8 | the Southeast Side of Chicago; he was named after his father | ||||||
9 | with the initials C.L.; when he started school at Bart | ||||||
10 | Elementary, he was asked to give his full name, so he chose | ||||||
11 | Charles Lester Patterson Jr. and was called by that name ever | ||||||
12 | since; he graduated from DuSable High School, where he and a | ||||||
13 | few friends formed the singing group The Inspirations; with | ||||||
14 | their classic Chicago soul harmonies, range, and style, he and | ||||||
15 | the group were often called upon to sing at parties but | ||||||
16 | declined opportunities to professionally advance in the music | ||||||
17 | business; after graduation, he studied computer science at | ||||||
18 | Robert Morris College and worked nights; he married Sandra | ||||||
19 | Marie Verner on November 6, 1966; and

20 | WHEREAS, Charles Lester worked for Continental Bank and | ||||||
21 | United States Steel Works; he retired from Burlington Northern | ||||||
22 | and Santa Fe Railroad Company in May 2003, after 37 years of | ||||||
23 | service; and

1 | WHEREAS, Charles Lester was a dedicated member of the Power | ||||||
2 | Circle Congregation and the Christian Men of Power Circle | ||||||
3 | Congregation (CMPCC) and sang in the church choir; he enjoyed | ||||||
4 | dancing, singing, playing board and computer games, watching | ||||||
5 | sports and television programs, and a spirited game of Bid | ||||||
6 | Whist; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Charles Patterson was preceded in death by his | ||||||
8 | parents; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Charles Patterson is survived by his wife, Sandra | ||||||
10 | Marie; his daughter, Danita Elise; his father-in-law, Roy C. | ||||||
11 | Verner; his uncle, Auguster Miner; his aunt, Eunice Verner; his | ||||||
12 | sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Janice Harris, Lloyd | ||||||
13 | Baugh, Rose Powell, and Roy C. (Diana) Verner Jr.; his nephew, | ||||||
14 | Roddrick (Latonja) Verner; his nieces, Bridgette (Ricky) | ||||||
15 | Ellis, Cheryl Lynn (Jimmy) Horn, Tracy Harris, and Shannon | ||||||
16 | (John) Stokes; his great-nephews and great-nieces; his | ||||||
17 | longtime friends, James and Patricia Majors; the entire Power | ||||||
18 | Circle Congregation Family; and his many other family members | ||||||
19 | and friends; therefore, be it

20 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
21 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
22 | we mourn the passing of C.L. "Charles Lester" Patterson and |

1 | extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all | ||||||
2 | who knew and loved him; and be it further
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
4 | presented to the family of Charles Patterson as an expression | ||||||
