2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Lillie | ||||||
4 | Florence Goodwin, who passed away on May 21, 2021; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Lillie Goodwin was born to Reverend William M. | ||||||
6 | Connor and Deborah Connor in Michigan City, Indiana on January | ||||||
7 | 28, 1953; she was raised on the south side of Chicago where she | ||||||
8 | attended her father's church, Rust United Methodist Church; | ||||||
9 | she attended Bass Elementary and Englewood High School; she | ||||||
10 | graduated from Bradley University with a degree in Education; | ||||||
11 | and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Lillie Goodwin first worked as a teacher with | ||||||
13 | Chicago Public Schools (CPS); she left CPS after two years and | ||||||
14 | worked at Hoechst Pharmaceuticals as a pharmaceutical sales | ||||||
15 | person; she eventually became the midwest director of sales; | ||||||
16 | in 1993, she left Hoechst Pharmaceuticals and, in the spring | ||||||
17 | of 1994, opened The Hyde Park Learning Resource Center; the | ||||||
18 | center educated children after school, provided summer camps, | ||||||
19 | and offered rigorous academic training and unique, enriching | ||||||
20 | trips and activities; it served thousands of children over the | ||||||
21 | last 27 years and left a legacy in the Chicagoland area of | ||||||
22 | well-rounded alumni who attended colleges around the world and | ||||||
23 | achieved their dreams; and

1 | WHEREAS, Lillie Goodwin was awarded a Golden Apple Award | ||||||
2 | for her teaching prowess after her first year of teaching; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Lillie Goodwin will be especially remembered for | ||||||
4 | the love, empathy, kindness, and loving spirit she shared with | ||||||
5 | everyone she encountered; she loved to spend time with her son | ||||||
6 | Ryan, travel, play sports, entertain, engage in new conquests, | ||||||
7 | and spend time with family; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Lillie Goodwin was preceded in death by her | ||||||
9 | father and her mother; her sisters, Willa Mae Pearl and Anna | ||||||
10 | Mae Baliff; and her brother, Wayne; therefore, be it
| ||||||
11 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
12 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
13 | we mourn the passing of Lillie Florence Goodwin and extend our | ||||||
14 | sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew | ||||||
15 | and loved her; and be it further

16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
17 | presented to the family of Lillie Goodwin as an expression of | ||||||
18 | our deepest sympathy.
