HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, On November 10, 1775, the Continental Congress
3authorized the formation of two battalions of Marines in
4Philadelphia, beginning what would become the United States
5Marine Corps; and
6 WHEREAS, The U.S. Marine Corps has protected Americans and
7guarded their freedom for 248 years, serving with distinction
8in all wars in which the United States has been involved; and
9 WHEREAS, As the United States established a position of
10world leadership, the Marines have proven themselves as
11dedicated professionals willing to defend the lives and rights
12of Americans and of our allies of freedom around the world; and
13 WHEREAS, Since the formation of the Marines, the term
14"Marine" has been associated with courage and military
15proficiency; and
16 WHEREAS, The residents of Illinois are proud of the
17State's rich contribution to the Marine tradition and respect
18the Marines serving around the globe; therefore, be it
19 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
20HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1we declare November 10, 2023 as "Marine Corps Day" and the
2month of November 2023 as "Marine Corps Month" to recognize
3and honor the contributions of Marines and to commemorate the
4sacrifices and valor displayed by Marines; and be it further
5 RESOLVED, That we urge Marine Corps Day and Marine Corps
6Month be observed with appropriate programs, services, and
7activities.
