HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Anita Gilkey on the
4occasion of her retirement from the Chicago Park District; and
5 WHEREAS, Anita Gilkey grew up on the southeast side of
6Chicago in the Calumet Heights community, where she learned
7how to play softball and baseball; she played on boys and co-ed
8teams all over the city; she excelled in 11 inch fast pitch
9softball at Kenwood Academy High School, where she also played
10basketball; and
11 WHEREAS, Anita Gilkey received an athletic scholarship to
12play basketball at Chicago State University, where she also
13played softball and received a bachelor's degree in
14recreation; she earned a master's degree in the administration
15of physical education and sports from the University of
16Illinois at Chicago; she then received her Illinois State
17teaching certificate and worked as a substitute teacher in the
18public schools; and
19 WHEREAS, Anita Gilkey was hired by the Chicago Park
20District as an hourly physical instructor in May 1989; through
21her subsequent 34 year career, she advanced through a variety
22of positions, including monthly physical instructor,

1playground supervisor, park supervisor, area manager, and
2manager in community engagement; therefore, be it
3 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
5we congratulate Anita Gilkey on her retirement from the
6Chicago Park District after 34 years of service to the
7community, children, employees, and the parks; and be it
8further
9 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to Anita Gilkey as a symbol of our esteem and
11respect.
