2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of James | ||||||
4 | McKinley "Roosevelt" Barry, who passed away on May 12, 2017; | ||||||
5 | and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, James Barry was born in Etta, Mississippi to Rev. | ||||||
7 | McKinley and Fletter Bruce Barry on September 24, 1934; he was | ||||||
8 | a member of Flint Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Oxford, | ||||||
9 | Mississippi and graduated from Oxford Training School in 1956, | ||||||
10 | where he played football; he served in the United States Army | ||||||
11 | for two years starting in 1956; he married Zellner in 1969 and | ||||||
12 | earned his associate's degree from Kennedy King College in | ||||||
13 | 1971; he received a degree in auto mechanics from Greer | ||||||
14 | Technical Institute; and

15 | WHEREAS, James Barry worked for the United States Post | ||||||
16 | Office in Chicago; later, he became a supervisor of fueling and | ||||||
17 | cleaning at United Airlines for 34 years; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, James Barry was a member of the Oxford Training | ||||||
19 | School Alumni Association; he was a member of Bellevue Baptist | ||||||
20 | Church, where he served on the maintenance committee and was | ||||||
21 | instrumental in the planning process for the Bellevue Ministry | ||||||
22 | Center; he enjoyed gardening and reading the latest edition of |

2 | WHEREAS, James Barry was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
3 | and his siblings, Mildred Barry, Ardelia McJunkins, Edward | ||||||
4 | Barry, Roy L. Barry, Melvin Barry, Fred Barry, and Sam W. | ||||||
5 | Barry; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, James Barry is survived by his wife, Zellner; his | ||||||
7 | children, Bruce Dewayne (Tasha) Henry, Bernard McKinley (Gina) | ||||||
8 | Barry, and Ronald A. Barry; his grandchildren, Bianca Barry, | ||||||
9 | Terrel Barry, Brandi Henry, Kaleah Henry, Saniyya Henry, and | ||||||
10 | Xavier McKinley Barry; his great-grandchildren, Hunter, | ||||||
11 | Madyson, and Marlee; his godchildren, Robbie Douglas, Sherry | ||||||
12 | Alford, Shelly Ward, and Sharon Green; his sisters, Marie | ||||||
13 | Humes, Rev. Lois Glover, and Annie Williams; and numerous | ||||||
14 | nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends; therefore, be it

15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
16 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
17 | mourn the passing of James McKinley "Roosevelt" Barry, and | ||||||
18 | extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all | ||||||
19 | who knew and loved him; and be it further

20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
21 | presented to the family of James Barry as an expression of our | ||||||
22 | deepest sympathy.
