2 | WHEREAS, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention | ||||||
3 | report that domestic violence or
intimate partner violence is a | ||||||
4 | serious public health issue for millions of individuals in the | ||||||
5 | United
States; nearly one in four women and one in nine men in | ||||||
6 | the United States have suffered sexual violence,
physical | ||||||
7 | violence, or stalking by an intimate partner; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Transgender and gender non-conforming people face | ||||||
9 | extraordinary levels of
physical and sexual violence; over one | ||||||
10 | in four transgender people have faced bias-driven
assault; this | ||||||
11 | rate is higher for trans women and trans people of color; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, In 2014, approximately 65,800 intimate violence | ||||||
13 | incidents were reported to Illinois law
enforcement; many | ||||||
14 | others went unreported; in between July 2013 and June 2014, | ||||||
15 | there were 84
domestic violence-related deaths in Illinois, | ||||||
16 | including 15 children; therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
18 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
19 | we urge the U.S. Congress to reauthorize
the Violence Against | ||||||
20 | Women Act; and be it further

21 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be |

2 | Senate Majority Leader, the U.S. Senate Minority Leader, the | ||||||
