HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives wish to congratulate Neighborhood Housing
Services of Chicago, Inc. (NHS) on 49 years of serving as
advocates for economic inclusion and working to close the
racial wealth gap through homeownership; and
WHEREAS, NHS believes decent, safe, and affordable housing
is a human right, part of the American dream, and should be
available to all; and
WHEREAS, NHS has leveraged the expertise of many, working
with residents, community organizations, and corporate
partners to renew neighborhoods and rehabilitate homes
throughout the entire Chicago metropolitan area and Cook
County; and
WHEREAS, NHS helps first-time homebuyers through homebuyer
education, down payment assistance programs, and affordable
mortgage options; and
WHEREAS, NHS provides support and financial guidance to
those suffering under the crushing burden of student loan
debt; and

WHEREAS, NHS is committed to helping working families
strengthen their neighborhoods through community building,
real estate development, and housing policy; and
WHEREAS, NHS realizes that many have suffered due to
discriminatory practices and imbalanced lending practices,
particularly in some of the most challenging areas, and that
these practices contribute significantly to the persistent
racial wealth gap that NHS seeks to eliminate; and
WHEREAS, Housing quality serves as a visual and tangible
indicator of the health of a community and represents one of
the largest assets a neighborhood can cultivate and develop;
and
WHEREAS, Homeownership brings stability to neighborhoods
decimated by decades of divestment; and
WHEREAS, NHS is at the forefront of creating the next
generation of affordable homes designed to accommodate the
ever-changing needs of today's families while being conscious
of the environmental responsibilities and challenges of the
future; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
