2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Neighborhood Housing | ||||||
4 | Services of Chicago, Inc. (NHS) on 49 years of serving as | ||||||
5 | advocates for economic inclusion and working to close the | ||||||
6 | racial wealth gap through homeownership; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, NHS believes decent, safe, and affordable housing | ||||||
8 | is a human right, part of the American dream, and should be | ||||||
9 | available to all; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, NHS has leveraged the expertise of many, working | ||||||
11 | with residents, community organizations, and corporate | ||||||
12 | partners to renew neighborhoods and rehabilitate homes | ||||||
13 | throughout the entire Chicago metropolitan area and Cook | ||||||
14 | County; and

15 | WHEREAS, NHS helps first-time homebuyers through homebuyer | ||||||
16 | education, down payment assistance programs, and affordable | ||||||
17 | mortgage options; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, NHS provides support and financial guidance to | ||||||
19 | those suffering under the crushing burden of student loan | ||||||
20 | debt; and

1 | WHEREAS, NHS is committed to helping working families | ||||||
2 | strengthen their neighborhoods through community building, | ||||||
3 | real estate development, and housing policy; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, NHS realizes that many have suffered due to | ||||||
5 | discriminatory practices and imbalanced lending practices, | ||||||
6 | particularly in some of the most challenging areas, and that | ||||||
7 | these practices contribute significantly to the persistent | ||||||
8 | racial wealth gap that NHS seeks to eliminate; and

9 | WHEREAS, Housing quality serves as a visual and tangible | ||||||
10 | indicator of the health of a community and represents one of | ||||||
11 | the largest assets a neighborhood can cultivate and develop; | ||||||
12 | and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Homeownership brings stability to neighborhoods | ||||||
14 | decimated by decades of divestment; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, NHS is at the forefront of creating the next | ||||||
16 | generation of affordable homes designed to accommodate the | ||||||
17 | ever-changing needs of today's families while being conscious | ||||||
18 | of the environmental responsibilities and challenges of the | ||||||
19 | future; therefore, be it
