HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Operative Plasterers' &
4Cement Masons' International Association (OPCMIA) Local 90 on
5the occasion of its 125th anniversary; and
6 WHEREAS, OPCMIA of the United States and Canada is known
7as the oldest building and construction trades union in the
8United States, building safely and skillfully while ensuring
9the production of quality private, state, and federally-funded
10projects, including the Rebuild Illinois program; and
11 WHEREAS, On May 5, 1899, OPCMIA Local 90 was established
12in East St. Louis with the objective to enhance the standard of
13living, wages, working conditions, and job security; in the
14subsequent years, the organization effectively served the
15purpose for which it was founded, improving the future of its
16members, thus providing inspiration for cement masons,
17plasterers, and fireproofers in other parts of the country;
18and
19 WHEREAS, OPCMIA Local 90 has been a leader in the
20construction industry for more than a century, with the
21organization currently representing nearly 270 members in
22southwestern Illinois who are trained in the industry's latest

1cement finishing, plastering, fireproofing, and safety
2standards; the organization covers 10 full counties in
3Illinois, providing the safest and most productive workforce
4in the Metro East area; and
5 WHEREAS, Through persistence and relentless pursuit of a
6higher standard of living and better benefits and conditions,
7OPCMIA Local 90 has endured and overcome a great deal in its
8125-year history, permitting today's members to enjoy a safe
9workplace, an excellent hourly wage, superior health and
10welfare benefits, and a generous pension; therefore, be it
11 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we congratulate Operative Plasterers' & Cement Masons'
14International Association (OPCMIA) Local 90 on its 125th
15anniversary; and be it further
16 RESOLVED, That we thank OPCMIA Local 90, its officers, and
