| 2 | WHEREAS, Installed in 1957, the 309 area code is a | ||||||
| 3 | telephone area code serving the west-central portion of | ||||||
| 4 | Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, The 309 area code encompasses over 18 counties and | ||||||
| 6 | covers cities such as Bloomington, Canton, East Moline, East | ||||||
| 7 | Peoria, Galesburg, Kewanee, Macomb, Minonk, Moline, Morton, | ||||||
| 8 | Normal, Pekin, Peoria, Rock Island, Silvis, and many other | ||||||
| 9 | communities within the western part of central Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Over one million people live in the 309 area code | ||||||
| 11 | and it is home to over 20 universities; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Some of the world's best soil is located in the | ||||||
| 13 | 309 area code, and the agricultural workers in that area work | ||||||
| 14 | hard year after year to provide for their communities and the | ||||||
| 15 | State of Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, The 309 area code is home to the Morton Pumpkin | ||||||
| 17 | Festival, the East Peoria Festival of Lights, the Pekin | ||||||
| 18 | Marigold Festival, the Annual Rubber Duck Race in Galesburg, | ||||||
| 19 | and other exciting events; therefore, be it

| 20 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||

| 2 | we declare March 9, 2020 as "309 Day" in the State of Illinois | ||||||

| 4 | and the great people who live there.
