Bill Title: Amends the Illinois Notary Public Act. Provides that an applicant to renew an appointment as a notary public or as an electronic notary public is not required to complete a course of study or pass an examination if the applicant is a licensed attorney or judge or employed by a licensed attorney or the court.

1 AN ACT concerning State government.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Illinois Notary Public Act is amended by
5changing Section 2-101.5 as follows:
6 (5 ILCS 312/2-101.5)
7 Sec. 2-101.5. Course of study and examination.
8 (a) Except as required in subsection (c), applicants
9Applicants applying for the first time as a notary public or as
10an electronic notary public or applying to renew his or her
11appointment as a notary public or as an electronic notary
12public shall:
13 (1) complete any course of study on notarization and
14 electronic notarization that is required by the Secretary
15 of State; and
16 (2) pass an examination at the completion of the
17 course.
18 (b) The Secretary of State shall have the authority to
19adopt administrative rules mandating a course of study and
20examination and establishing the course of study content,
21length of the course of study to be required, and to approve
22any course of study providers.
23 (c) Notwithstanding any other provision of this Section,
