Bill Title: Amends the School Code. Provides that a school board shall require that each school building in the district be equipped with approved carbon monoxide alarms in accordance with the rules of the State Fire Marshal. Provides that the State Fire Marshal shall, by rule, (i) determine the number of alarms a public school building must have and where those alarms must be located, (ii) require that the alarms be in operating condition and be inspected annually, and (iii) exempt school buildings from the alarm requirement if they do not have or are not close to any sources of carbon monoxide. Effective immediately.

1 AN ACT concerning education.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections
510-20.56 and 34-18.49 as follows:
6 (105 ILCS 5/10-20.56 new)
7 Sec. 10-20.56. Carbon monoxide alarm required.
8 (a) In this Section, "approved carbon monoxide alarm" and
9"alarm" have the meaning ascribed to those terms in the Carbon
10Monoxide Alarm Detector Act.
11 (b) A school board shall require that each school building
12in the district be equipped with approved carbon monoxide
13alarms in accordance with the rules of the State Fire Marshal.
14The State Fire Marshal shall, by rule, (i) determine the number
15of alarms a public school building must have and where those
16alarms must be located, (ii) require that the alarms be in
