2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of James William Madden of Oak Park, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on February 2, 2023 at the age of 77; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, James Madden was born on November 7, 1945 to Joe | ||||||
6 | and Margaret Madden; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, James Madden was raised in River Forest and | ||||||
8 | attended St. Luke School and Fenwick High School; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, James Madden earned both a bachelor's and | ||||||
10 | master's degree in history at Marquette University; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, James Madden married Leslye Madden, and they had | ||||||
12 | four children, John, Olivia, Lara, and Maria Grace; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, James Madden worked as a reporter, a social | ||||||
14 | worker, and a commodities broker before embarking on a 30-year | ||||||
15 | career as an investigator with the Cook County Public | ||||||
16 | Defender's Office; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, James Madden worked diligently in a profession | ||||||
18 | dealing with the struggles of humanity, yet he remained | ||||||
19 | affable, optimistic, and sensitive to the beauty in the world; |

2 | WHEREAS, James Madden was preceded in death by his | ||||||
3 | daughter, Maria Grace, who passed away at a young age; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, James Madden is survived by his wife, Leslye; his | ||||||
5 | son, John; his daughters, Olivia and Lara; his brother, John; | ||||||
6 | his sisters, Mary and Maggie; and his grandchildren, Jack and | ||||||
7 | Will; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, James Madden will be missed by his family, many | ||||||
9 | friends, and colleagues; therefore, be it
| ||||||
10 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
11 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
12 | James William Madden and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
13 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
14 | further

15 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
16 | presented to the family of James Madden as an expression of our | ||||||
17 | deepest sympathy.
