2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Marie V. Nickels, who passed away | ||||||
4 | peacefully in her River Forest home surrounded by family, at | ||||||
5 | the age of 99; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Marie Nickels was born to Louis and Gertrude | ||||||
7 | Patke in Chicago on November 30, 1921; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Marie Nickels grew up on the North Side of | ||||||
9 | Chicago in the Albany Park neighborhood; she attended Our Lady | ||||||
10 | of Mercy Grammar School and Immaculata High School; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Marie Nickels continued her education at Rosary | ||||||
12 | College, now Dominican University, and graduated with a degree | ||||||
13 | in Library Science; she became a librarian at Barat College; | ||||||
14 | and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Marie Nickels married her longtime neighborhood | ||||||
16 | sweetheart, William C. Nickels; she traveled the world with | ||||||
17 | him; her four children, Bob, Pam, Mary, and Bill, were her | ||||||
18 | pride and joy; she enjoyed spending time with her | ||||||
19 | grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Marie Nickels enjoyed cooking and was a "wiz" in |

1 | the kitchen; she produced gourmet meals every night; she | ||||||
2 | delighted in searching for the freshest fruits and vegetables | ||||||
3 | at her summer home in Montague, Michigan; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Marie Nickels was preceded in death by her first | ||||||
5 | husband, William C. Nickels; her grandchild, Billy Nickels; | ||||||
6 | and her brother, Don (Shirley) Patke; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Marie Nickels is survived by Robert (Mary Kay), | ||||||
8 | Pamela (Edward) Dieschbourg, Mary (Daniel) Dillon, and William | ||||||
9 | (Paula) Nickels; her grandchildren, Katy (Richard) Sequeira, | ||||||
10 | Tom, Clare (Andy) Retrum, Julie (Jeff) Wojtowicz, Beth | ||||||
11 | (Conrad) Perez, Mary Pat (Mike) Kwit, Matt (Hannah) and Mike | ||||||
12 | (Gina) Nickels, Lisa Von Roenn, David, Ryan, and Nick | ||||||
13 | Dieschbourg, Emily (Mike) Gallagher, Lauren (Bill) Ellsworth, | ||||||
14 | Dan Dillon, and Maddie Nickels; and her 23 | ||||||
15 | great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
18 | Marie V. Nickels, and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
19 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
20 | further

21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
22 | presented to the family of Marie V. Nickels as an expression of |
