2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Lester La Verne Wherry of Rock Island, | ||||||
4 | who passed away on August 13, 2019; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Lester Wherry was born in Eliza Township in Mercer | ||||||
6 | County to Alden and Lila (Loving) Wherry on May 31, 1932; he | ||||||
7 | graduated from Joy High School in 1950 and served in the U.S. | ||||||
8 | Air Force during the Korean War; he married Carley Fisher at | ||||||
9 | the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa on June 14, 1958; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, After his service, Lester Wherry worked at | ||||||
11 | Wherry's Tavern in Joy; he then worked for Oscar Mayer in | ||||||
12 | Davenport for 33 years, retiring in 1993; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Lester Wherry's memberships included Milan | ||||||
14 | American Legion Post No. 569, Galesburg Moose, and the | ||||||
15 | Mississippi Valley Country and Western Music Association; he | ||||||
16 | enjoyed traveling, deer hunting, music, dancing, and hound | ||||||
17 | dogs, especially "Flying Lady"; and

18 | WHEREAS, Lester Wherry was preceded in death by his wife, | ||||||
19 | Carley; his sons, Dana and Douglas Wherry; his sister and | ||||||
20 | brother-in-law, Vada and Aldus Gridley; and his parents; and

1 | WHEREAS, Lester Wherry is survived by his son, David | ||||||
2 | (Mariann) Wherry; his niece, Linda (Tom) Williams; his | ||||||
3 | great-nieces, Amanda Williams and Tarrah Smith; his | ||||||
4 | great-great nieces, Lydia and Emily Skelton; and his special | ||||||
5 | friend, Joy Norton and her family; therefore, be it
| ||||||
6 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
7 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
8 | Lester La Verne Wherry and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
9 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
10 | further

11 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
12 | presented to the family of Lester Wherry as an expression of | ||||||
