2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Audrey Joy Smith of Mt. Vernon, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on October 14, 2013; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Audrey Smith was born on August 14, 1922 in | ||||||
6 | Calhoun, Wisconsin; her parents were Walter E. and Agnes E. | ||||||
7 | (Luhrsen) Thomas; she married Albert W. Smith on March 22, 1942 | ||||||
8 | in Des Plaines; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Audrey Smith was raised and received her education | ||||||
10 | in East Troy, Wisconsin, where she graduated from East Troy | ||||||
11 | High School in 1940; she later attended Rosary College in River | ||||||
12 | Forest for one year; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, After their marriage, Audrey Smith and her husband | ||||||
14 | moved to River Grove, where she became a homemaker and raised 5 | ||||||
15 | children; after her husband retired in 1978, the couple moved | ||||||
16 | to Mt. Vernon, where she lived until moving to Wisconsin in | ||||||
17 | 2008; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Audrey Smith was a member of the Mt. Vernon | ||||||
19 | Women's Club; she was also active in the River Grove Parent | ||||||
20 | Teacher Association and was an active member at her church; and

1 | WHEREAS, Audrey Smith enjoyed playing the organ, | ||||||
2 | crocheting, traveling, gardening, and cats; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Audrey Smith was preceded in death by her parents; | ||||||
4 | her husband, Albert; her brothers, Glenn, Doug, Marshall, Jim, | ||||||
5 | and Roger Thomas; and her sister, Beatrice Thomas; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Audrey Smith is survived by her children, Thomas | ||||||
7 | "T.R." Smith (fiancee, Lynda Fernow), a farmer in Burlington | ||||||
8 | and a member of the Kane County Board and a member of the | ||||||
9 | Board's Agriculture Committee, Beverly (Gary) Carpenter, | ||||||
10 | Barbara (Dix) Fulton, Judy (John) Barrett, and Richard | ||||||
11 | (Lucille) Smith; her 10 grandchildren; her 10 | ||||||
12 | great-grandchildren; and her many nieces, nephews, other | ||||||
13 | relatives, and friends; therefore, be it

14 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
15 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her | ||||||
16 | family and friends, mourn the passing of Audrey Joy Smith; and | ||||||
17 | be it further

18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
19 | presented to the family of Audrey Smith as an expression of our | ||||||
20 | sympathy.
