SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The Pontiac Correctional Center has received IEPA
3violations on water quality; and
4 WHEREAS, The Pontiac Correctional Center has had multiple
5assaults on staff by inmates in 2023; and
6 WHEREAS, In 2022, the Executive Inspector General released
7a report on the work environment at the Pontiac Correctional
8Center that noted cases of sexual harassment; and
9 WHEREAS, In December of 2022, officers at the Pontiac
10Correctional Center staged a picket in protest of unsafe
11working conditions; and
12 WHEREAS, After this issue came to the public's attention,
13the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) was requested to
14provide a long-term plan for the Pontiac Correctional Center;
15one year later, IDOC has failed to do so; therefore, be it
16 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we call upon the
18Department Of Corrections to provide a long-term plan for the
19Pontiac Correctional Center that includes the following:
20 (1) Plans for physical facilities/buildings, including

1 maintenance needs and any repair projects planned or
2 building closures;
3 (2) Planned staffing levels;
4 (3) Planned inmate population levels; and
5 (3) An analysis of how the Pontiac Correctional Center
6 fits into the overall state correctional system; and be it
7 further
8 RESOLVED, It is important that plans are made so staff and
9inmates can operate in a safe and proper environment; and be it
