SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Murel Peterson of Moline, who passed away
4on July 30, 2020; and
5 WHEREAS, Murel Peterson was born in Pine, Missouri to Ray
6and Virgie (Lewis) Peterson on September 26, 1928; he married
7Dorothy Marie Ferguson in Rock Island on February 17, 1953, and
8she preceded him in death on August 7, 1998; he joined the U.S.
9Army on October 12, 1953, and he served in Korea; he joined the
10U.S. National Guard in August of 1954, and he earned the rank
11of Sergeant 1st Class before retiring in 1972; he married
12Dorothy Jean Martin on September 23, 2000, and she preceded him
13in death on June 10, 2019; and
14 WHEREAS, Murel Peterson began working at John Deere Plow
15Planter on December 17, 1947; he retired on September 30, 1987;
16and
17 WHEREAS, Murel Peterson was committed to his faith and was
18a member of the Victory Baptist Church in East Moline for over
1940 years; he was known for doing everything he could to attend
20family sporting events; he will be remembered as a loving
21husband, father, and grandfather; and

1 WHEREAS, Murel Peterson was preceded in death by his
2parents; his wives; his sisters, Dorene Peterson and Nora
3Peterson; and his brother, Doris Peterson; and
4 WHEREAS, Murel Peterson is survived by his children, Donna
5Peterson (Connie McCumsey) and M. Keith (Angie) Peterson; his
6grandchildren, Kyle Peterson, Holly Peterson, and Zachary
7Peterson; and his sister, Irene Peterson; therefore, be it
8 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Murel Peterson and extend our sincere condolences to his
11family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
13 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Murel Peterson as an expression of
15our deepest sympathy.
