SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Joseph S. Forzley of Lemont, who passed
4away on August 25, 2020; and
5 WHEREAS, Joseph Forzley was born to Salim and Fedwa Forzley
6in Lemont on July 10, 1927; he graduated from Lemont Township
7High School in 1945; he then served in the 5th Army Air Force
8in World War Two; after serving his country, he received his
9degree from UCLA; he married Bernice Elias at the All Saints
10Greek Orthodox Church in 1950; he was a lifelong resident of
11Lemont; and
12 WHEREAS, Joseph Forzley worked in the insurance business
13for eight years; he then worked for Argonne National Laboratory
14as a purchasing manager for 30 years; he also served as mayor
15of Lemont from 1989 to 1992; and
16 WHEREAS, Joseph Forzley was a founding member of the Wilco
17Career Center and what is now known as The Blue & Gold Backers,
18a parent-driven volunteer organization that supports the
19Lemont High School Athletic Department through fundraising
20activities; he served as a board member of the All Saints Greek
21Orthodox Church and of the Franciscan Sisters, as president of
22the Lemont High School Board, on the Lemont Planning and Zoning

1Commission, and on the Lemont Village Board; he also coached
2Little League; and
3 WHEREAS, Joseph Forzley was a Scottish Rite Masonic member
4as well as a member of the Lockport Masonic Lodge #538 and
5Shriners; a proud veteran, he was an Honor Flight recipient and
6a member of the VFW and American Legion; and
7 WHEREAS, Joseph Forzley was a Lemont High School Hall of
8Fame recipient; he was also chosen as Lemont's Grand Marshal
9for the Keepataw Parade and as Citizen of the Year; in
10addition, a bridge at the Lemont quarries was named after him;
11and
12 WHEREAS, Joseph Forzley enjoyed vacationing in Florida,
13all sports, and, most of all, spending time with his family;
14and
15 WHEREAS, Joseph Forzley was preceded in death by his
16parents; his two brothers, Edward and Richard Forzley; his
17brother-in-law, Elias Abboud; and his mother-in-law and
18father-in-law, Asma and Essa Elias; and
19 WHEREAS, Joseph Forzley is survived by his loving and
20devoted wife of 70 years, Bernice (Elias) Forzley; his three
21children, Sharon (Ted) Mochel, Mark (Kathy) Forzley, and Dr.

1Samuel (Michele) Forzley; his seven grandchildren, Matthew
2(Christina), Michele, and Michael Forzley, Sarah (Graham)
3Pocic, and Nicholas, Anne, and Elizabeth Forzley; his three
4great-grandchildren, Grace and Jack Pocic and Hannah Forzley;
5his sister, Gloria Abboud; his sister-in-law, Joan Forzley; and
6his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
7 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Joseph S. Forzley and extend our sincere condolences to his
10family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
11further
12 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Joseph Forzley as an expression of
14our deepest sympathy.
