1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, America's coal miners have worked for decades to | ||||||
3 | provide the means to energize our nation; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, The United States Environmental Protection Agency | ||||||
5 | has proposed a "Clean Power Plan" rule with the stated | ||||||
6 | intention of reducing the amount of greenhouse gas emissions | ||||||
7 | that contribute to climate change and global warming; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, The "Clean Power Plan" rule will directly lead to | ||||||
9 | the closure of Illinois coal burning power plants, resulting in | ||||||
10 | an estimated loss of more than 52,000 jobs in the coal, | ||||||
11 | utility, and railroad industries by 2020; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, These job losses will have a ripple effect in all | ||||||
13 | communities throughout the coalfields and beyond; therefore, | ||||||
14 | be it

15 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
16 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge the United | ||||||
17 | States Environmental Protection Agency to immediately schedule | ||||||
18 | public hearings in the coalfield regions of the United States | ||||||
19 | regarding the proposed "Clean Power Plan" rule; and be it | ||||||

8 | Environmental Protection Agency, the Director of the Illinois | ||||||
9 | Environmental Protection Agency, the Chairman and | ||||||
10 | Commissioners of the Illinois Commerce Commission, and the | ||||||
11 | members of the Illinois congressional delegation.
