SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Edward J. "Ed" Debowski of East Moline,
who passed away on November 9, 2020; and
WHEREAS, Ed Debowski was born in Donora, Pennsylvania to
Casimir and Mary (Chinay) Debowski on October 31, 1924; he
served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 during World War II,
where he was a 2nd Class Petty Officer on the U.S.S. Shannon
destroyer minelayer; he married Ann Koday in Donora on May 7,
1949; they lived in Donora until they moved to East Moline in
1963, where they raised eight children; and
WHEREAS, Ed Debowski worked for the U.S. Steel Mill in
Donora, Pennsylvania for 11 years; after moving to East Moline,
he worked as an electrician at Alcoa for 27 years until his
retirement in 1990; and
WHEREAS, Ed Debowski was a member and on the board of the
Catholic Credit Union; he was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe
Catholic Church, where he enjoyed singing in the choir for many
years; he had a passion for gardening and playing cards; he was
known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and
compassionate spirit; and

WHEREAS, Ed Debowski was preceded in death by his parents
and his siblings, Joseph Debowski, Violet Zielinski, and Walter
Debowski; and
WHEREAS, Ed Debowski is survived by his wife of 71 years,
Ann; his children, Joseph Debowski, Michael (Patty) Debowski,
Kathleen Dopler, Marian Ferry, Edward (Lisa) Debowski, Ann
Marie (Gary) Schutt, James Debowski, and Carolyn (John) Potter;
his 14 grandchildren; his 13 great-grandchildren; his
siblings, Helen Pipik and Anthony Debowski; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
Edward J. "Ed" Debowski and extend our sincere condolences to
his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Ed Debowski as an expression of our
deepest sympathy.
