| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Ernest Hauser, who passed away on October | ||||||
4 | 30, 2019 at the age of 89; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Ernest Hauser was a second-generation native of | ||||||
6 | Oak Park, born to Esther and Ernest A. Hauser in May 1930; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Ernest Hauser attended Hatch Elementary School | ||||||
8 | and Oak Park and River Forest High School; he was a member of | ||||||
9 | the ROTC while he attended the University of Illinois | ||||||
10 | Urbana-Champaign; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, After graduation, Ernest Hauser followed in his | ||||||
12 | father's shoes and joined the U.S. Army; he completed Ranger | ||||||
13 | School and Company Grade Officers Courses and served during the | ||||||
14 | Korean War as a rifle company commander, training officer, and | ||||||
15 | property officer; he was honorably discharged in 1955 with the | ||||||
16 | rank of first lieutenant; and

17 | WHEREAS, Ernest Hauser moved back to Oak Park; he married | ||||||
18 | Pauline, had two daughters, and started his career; he was the | ||||||
19 | personnel director for many companies in Chicago; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Ernest Hauser was passionate about judo, which he |

1 | had been practicing since his 20s; he competed both nationally | ||||||
2 | and locally, earning his fifth degree black belt in 1992; for | ||||||
3 | nearly four decades, he taught judo at the Oak Park YMCA, the | ||||||
4 | Lattof YMCA of Metro Chicago, and the Tohkon Judo Academy; he | ||||||
5 | was a member of the Chicago Judo Black Belt Association; he | ||||||
6 | retired from the sport in 2006; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Ernest Hauser moved to Elmwood Park in the | ||||||
8 | mid-1990s after his divorce and retirement; he was often seen | ||||||
9 | cycling around Oak Park and participating in the Oak Park | ||||||
10 | Township Senior Lunch Program; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Ernest Hauser enjoyed an active retirement with | ||||||
12 | his longtime companion, Pam Schultz; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Ernest Hauser was preceded in death by his sister, | ||||||
14 | Mary Davidson; her husband, Stirling; and their children, Diana | ||||||
15 | and Steven; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Ernest Hauser is survived by his daughters, Karen | ||||||
17 | (John Hammetter) and Barb; Pam Schultz; his former wife, | ||||||
18 | Pauline; and his great-niece, Susan Anderson; therefore, be it
| ||||||
19 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
20 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
21 | Ernest Hauser and extend our sincere condolences to his family, |

2 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
3 | presented to the family of Ernest Hauser as an expression of | ||||||
