| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Martin Lynn Maguet of Monticello, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on June 13, 2020; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Martin Maguet was born in Decatur to Martin Harold | ||||||
6 | Maguet and Vera Kathryn Maguet on September 23, 1936; he | ||||||
7 | graduated from Decatur High School in 1954; he married Karen | ||||||
8 | Kaufmann at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Decatur on June | ||||||
9 | 6, 1959; he earned an undergraduate and two graduate degrees | ||||||
10 | from the University of Illinois, where he was a Varsity "I" | ||||||
11 | awardee and was active in the Delta Tau Delta fraternity, | ||||||
12 | Intramural Sports as a student director, the ROTC, and the | ||||||
13 | Tribe of Illini; he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in | ||||||
14 | the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Lee, Virginia; and

15 | WHEREAS, Martin Maguet was a lifelong educator and | ||||||
16 | community leader; he enjoyed a 33-year career as an educational | ||||||
17 | administrator and teacher in the Monticello School District; | ||||||
18 | among his many accolades, he was recognized as "One Who Excels" | ||||||
19 | by the Illinois Department of Education, as Teacher of the | ||||||
20 | Year, and with an Outstanding Educator of America Award; and

21 | WHEREAS, Martin Maguet was an active member of the | ||||||
22 | Monticello United Methodist Church, where he served as Lay |

1 | Leader for many years; he was known as a voracious reader, a | ||||||
2 | pursuer of knowledge, a curious traveler, and a devoted dog | ||||||
3 | lover; he was an avid sports fan of the Cubs, the Bears, the | ||||||
4 | Bulls, the Illini, and the Sages; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Martin Maguet will forever be remembered by his | ||||||
6 | many friends, colleagues, teachers, and students for his | ||||||
7 | compassionate intelligence, generous spirit, uncompromising | ||||||
8 | acceptance and embrace of all living beings, gentle demeanor, | ||||||
9 | and strong commitment to building a better world for all; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Martin Maguet was preceded in death by his | ||||||
11 | parents; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Martin Maguet is survived by his wife, Karen; his | ||||||
13 | children, Kathryn, Michael (Elizabeth), and Mark; his | ||||||
14 | grandchildren, Andrea, Matthew, and Emma; his four | ||||||
15 | great-grandchildren; his brother, Larry (Patti) Maguet; and | ||||||
16 | his cousin/sibling-in-spirit, Ben Howenstein; therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
19 | Martin Lynn Maguet and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
20 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
21 | further
