2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Major (Ret.) Alfred Earl Clark, Jr., who | ||||||
4 | passed away on September 26, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Alfred Clark, Jr. was born in Pittsburgh, | ||||||
6 | Pennsylvania on April 17, 1943 to Alfred Earl Clark, Sr. and | ||||||
7 | Thelma Adams; he attended Miller Elementary School and | ||||||
8 | graduated from Fifth Avenue Junior and Senior High School in | ||||||
9 | Pittsburgh in 1961; he received his Bachelor of Arts in | ||||||
10 | Mathematics from Fayetteville State University in | ||||||
11 | Fayetteville, North Carolina and his Master of Arts in | ||||||
12 | Administration and Supervision from Roosevelt University in | ||||||
13 | Chicago; he married to Donna Sue Thomas on August 19, 1972 in | ||||||
14 | Austin, Texas; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Alfred Clark, Jr. served as a Major in the United | ||||||
16 | States Army; he served during the Vietnam War and received an | ||||||
17 | Honorable Discharge; in January of 1989, he retired from the | ||||||
18 | United States Army Reserve; he was a recipient of the Bronze | ||||||
19 | Star and numerous other military honors; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Alfred Clark, Jr. was an educator for 30 years in | ||||||
21 | the public schools of North Chicago and Chicago; his | ||||||
22 | educational career started as a mathematics and science |

1 | teacher, football and track coach, and continued as dean of | ||||||
2 | students, assistant principal, principal, athletic director, | ||||||
3 | director of adult education, and in the superintendent's | ||||||
4 | cabinet as director of student services, transportation, and | ||||||
5 | school safety; he was instrumental in sponsoring 3 high school | ||||||
6 | students for the Alfred Clark Scholarship Award in North | ||||||
7 | Carolina; and | ||||||
8 | |||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Alfred Clark, Jr. was a member of Green's Temple | ||||||
10 | Church of God in Pittsburgh and then Shiloh Baptist Church of | ||||||
11 | Waukegan; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Alfred Clark, Jr. was preceded in death by his | ||||||
13 | parents; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Alfred Clark, Jr. is survived by his wife, Donna | ||||||
15 | Sue; his son, Jadaun; 3 siblings, Rose (Jacob) Reid, John | ||||||
16 | (Sylvia) Clark, and Cheryl Clark; his aunt, Mary Lee Seay; 3 | ||||||
17 | sisters-in-law, Georgia Thomas, Mae Turman, and Linda Thomas; 2 | ||||||
18 | brothers-in-law, Augustus Williams and George Thomas (Cheryl); | ||||||
19 | 10 nieces; 9 nephews; 18 cousins; 3 godchildren; and a host of | ||||||
20 | other relatives, friends, and precious former students; | ||||||
21 | therefore, be it

22 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
23 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |

1 | Major (Ret.) Alfred Earl Clark, Jr., and extend our sincere | ||||||
2 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
3 | him; and be it further

4 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
5 | presented to the family of Alfred Clark, Jr. as an expression | ||||||
6 | of our deepest sympathy.
