A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning
health.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

SECTION 1. IC 16-34-1-3.5 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE
AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY
1, 2013]: Sec. 3.5. (a) As used in this section, "Indiana University
hospitals" refers to the hospitals described in IC 16-23.5-3-1.
(b) As used in this section, "medical center" includes a hospital building or complex of buildings in which medical education, internship programs, medical research, paramedical training, and any related or equivalent activities are systematically carried on in addition to the usual functions of a hospital.
(c) No medical center or Indiana University hospital may perform an abortion as part of the operations or educational programs of the medical center or Indiana University hospital except under the following circumstances:
(1) The abortion is necessary to preserve the life of the pregnant woman.
(2) The abortion is necessary to prevent a substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function of the
