RESOLUTION
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating the New Castle
Little League.
Whereas, The 66th Little League Baseball World Series, for
11 and 12 year olds, was played in South Williamsport,
Pennsylvania, from August 16 to August 26, 2012, with 16
teams from around the world vying for the title of World
Champion;
Whereas, The New Castle Little League won its first trip to
the Little League Baseball World Series with a 6-5 victory
over Warren County Southern Little League, Bowling Green,
Kentucky, to win the Great Lakes Region Tournament;
Whereas, The New Castle Little League team overcame a
four-run deficit to score a run in the bottom of the sixth
inning to win a slot in the Little League Baseball World
Series;
Whereas, The New Castle team overcame many obstacles
to get to the Little League Baseball World Series, the biggest
of which was the death of the team's long-time coach Danny
Smekens, who died of cancer in 2011;
Whereas, Pitcher Bryce Pinkard and his family also faced
hardship last year when their home was destroyed by fire;
Whereas, However, Bryce was the hero when he awoke to discover the fire in his house and was able to get his family to safety;
Whereas, The New Castle Little League defeated its first opponent by a score of 4 - 0, but was unable to advance any further in the tournament;
Whereas, Even though the New Castle Little League is not
the World Champion, the members are an inspiration to all
and are a talented and dedicated group of young men; and
Whereas, Accomplishments of this caliber deserve special
recognition: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly wishes to
congratulate the New Castle Little League on the League's victories and
fine showing in the 2012 Little League Baseball World Series and the
strength and tenacity of the members in overcoming all obstacles in
their path.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
Representatives transmit copies of this resolution to team members
Bryce Huntley, Janson Anderson, Niah Williamson, Cory Murphy,
Jarred Porter, Blake Burris, Brett Matney, Bryce Matney, Mason Gillis,
Bryce Pinkard, Hunter McCubbins, and Cayden Smekens, coach Bret
Mann, coach Junior Hammond, and manager Tim Porter.
