A HOUSE RESOLUTION to honor Representative David
Cheatham on his retirement from the Indiana House of
Representatives.
Whereas, Representative David Cheatham has represented
his constituents, the citizens of House District 69, at the
Statehouse for fourteen years, serving from 1984 until 1992,
and then again from 2006 until 2012;
Whereas, Representative Cheatham was born and raised in
Madison, Indiana, where he worked as a high school teacher for
thirty-one years, and where he met his wife Gayla, who like her
husband worked as a teacher for twenty-two years, and with
whom he has two children and four grandchildren, to whom
Representative Cheatham has always been a loving husband,
father and grandfather;
Whereas, For his work at the Statehouse on behalf of his constituents, Representative Cheatham has been recognized and honored by a wide range of organizations, including the
Jennings County Economic Development Hall of Fame Award,
the Veterans of Foreign Wars Voice of Democracy Citation, the
Indiana Right to Life State Legislative Award, the Crusade for
Life Citation, and being named a Sagamore of the Wabash by
former Governor Evan Bayh; and,
Whereas, Outside the Statehouse, Representative Cheatham
has dedicated himself to the state of Indiana and to his
community and neighbors through service on the North Vernon
City Council, the Indiana Water Resources Board, and the State
Advisory Council of the Indiana Department of Education:
Therefore:
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives thanks
Representative David Cheatham for his dedicated and honorable
service to his constituency and to the state of Indiana, and wishes him
happiness and contentment in his retirement.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to Representative
David Cheatham and his family.
